Riverside's Dedicated Sprinter Dealership
Walter Kienle learned his trade with his hands. Born in Germany to Swiss parents, he came to the United States in 1948 and went to work as a mechanic almost immediately. He then enlisted in the Army, trained at tank school, and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant, and his service brought him to Riverside, where he decided to stay. In 1960 he opened a Riverside repair shop, and by 1965 he was selling the European vehicles he'd been repairing. That business grew into Walter's Automotive Group, and the Van Center is the one dealership in the group built entirely around vehicles that work for a living: Sprinter vans in Cargo, Passenger, Crew, and Chassis Cab configurations, plus upfitted builds for contractors and fleets. Today his son, Steve Kienle, leads the group Walter built, following his father's passing in December 2017. The family that started with one repair shop now runs a dealership for the businesses that count on their vehicles every day.
